Abstract

Potential complications of pregnancy in the uterine scar after caesarean section are associated with significant maternal morbidity, especially if not recognised, including uterine rupture, massive hemorrhage, and necessity of urgent hysterectomy is not established. Based on current evidence, pregnancy in a uterine scar after caesarean section and variants of placenta ingrowth are considered to be the same condition, with higher risks of complications as the gestational age increases. We present 2 cases with different gestational ages diagnosed and treated at our hospital. Placental ingrowth can be a serious complication in subsequent pregnancies. Once the ovum is attached in the scar area, a diverticulum or defect in the lower uterine segment may form. Recovery of the uterine wall after removal of the fetus in the scar area does not guarantee the healing of the uterine wall or a safe pregnancy outcome. Women contemplating pregnancy with a history of fetal egg retention in the uterine scar area should be consulted and closely monitored in a level III hospital at occurrence of pregnancy. © 2022, Media Sphera Publishing Group.
