Abstract
Introduction: The aim of this study has been to investigate the relationship between coping styles and tendency to addiction in students of Zabol. Methods: This study is descriptive-correlation. In this study, 363 students entered the study. Data collection tools in this study were Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS) and drug-abuse tendency questionnaire. The collected data entered SPSS20 and were analyzed using descriptive statistical methods, correlation, and independent t-test, ANOVA, and Scheffe post hoc test. Findings: The results showed there was a negative correlation between problem-focused coping styles and the tendency to addiction, but emotion-focused coping style had a positive correlation with tendency to addiction. There was no significant correlation between avoidance coping style and the tendency to addiction. Conclusions: It can be argued that problem-focused coping style could be a protective factor in drug abuse, but emotion-focused coping style is considered a risk factor for drug abuse. © 2018 Wolters Kluwer Medknow Publications.
