Abstract

Background and aim: Diabetes is one of the most common metabolic disorders and the most common medical condition in pregnancy. Gestational diabetes complications such as macrosomia, fetal abnormalities, birth defects, early delivery, fetal death with unspecified cause and postpartum birth problems. Having mental health and reducing stress in patients can help a person to better manage their illness. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the effect of education based on health belief model on self-efficacy in pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus. Method: The present study was a semi-experimental study on 70 pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus in 1396. The samples were selected and randomly divided into two groups of control and test. The data collection tools were demographic information questionnaire and diabetes self- efficacy scale (CIDS), which were completed and compared before and after intervention. Data were analyzed by SPSS software version 22. Findings: The findings showed that there was no significant difference between the mean of self-efficacy in both control and control groups before and after the intervention (P> 0.05). However, the mean score of self-efficacy after intervention was significantly different between the two groups (P < 0.05). Conclusion: According to the results of this study, health belief model can promote the autoimmunity of pregnant women with gestational diabetes in different areas of life. Therefore, using this health pattern is recommended to improve the living conditions of this group from vulnerable people.
