Abstract

One of the public health and environment challenges, which is also an indispensable part of human’s life,is waste production. Thereby, the present study is an attempt to carry out qualitative and quantitative analyses of waste production. The results could be helpful for urban managers to make better waste management programming. Waste samples were collected through cluster random sampling from waste trucks over one year. Demographics of the city residents was collected from the statistics department of health services and the census of 2011. Waste production per capita was obtained by dividing the total produced waste by the population. Average waste production was 32.75MT/day and average per capita was 840gr/day. Quantitative surveys showed that the waste production is highest in summer (36MG/day) and lowest in winter (29MT/day).Quantitative surveys showed that 69.4 of the waste was decomposable waste(food waste),18.20 was plastics (bottles),and 6 was paper and carton. Quality of the produced waste,as well as its quantity, varied based on city districts. Having insight into the waste content and an effective programming it is possible to reduce emitted pollutants from the waste incineration plants, garbage dumps, and mines. Such measures may also reduce volume of dumped or incinerated wastes. © 2016,International Journal of Pharmacy and Technology. All rights reserved.
