Abstract

Introduction: Since upgrading public health is one of the important pillars for the development of communities, this research intended to study general health of menopausal women in Zahedan and the factors associated with it. Methodology: This descriptive research was conducted on 330 menopausal women in Zahedan and factors associated with their menopause in 2011. Considering the geographic location of Zahedan and its administrative divisions, 10 Health and Treatment Centers were selected in the different parts of this city. Based on the population covered by each Center, the number of women selects at each one was 32. The GHQ- 28 Questionnaire was employed as the tool for collecting data. Results: Based on the results of the study, the estimated general health of the women was 33.8, and the estimated mean level of general health of the women was 33.8 and the mean scores for the various areas of general health were as follows: social function 9.9, physical health 8.9, anxiety 4.8, and depression 5.7. Moreover, their average score for general health had statistically significant correlations with their age, education level, history of their husbands’ addiction, number of children, and number of wives their husbands had (p<0.001). Conclusions: results indicated that the general health of the women was not desirable and, since women are considered the cores of the families, greater attention must be paid to them.
